This chapter was founded in collaboration with the Folsom Middle School Coding Club

The FMS Coding Club seeks to teach students coding skills, build leadership and collaboration skills, and enable students to use coding in the real world! It is available to students who are in Grade 6-8 and go to Folsom Middle School, and takes place every Tuesday from 3:45 – 4:45.
This is the first year of the club, and it has been a success, with about 55 members actively attending our meetings. In the future, we plan to have a more interactive curriculum and empower kids to learn more while having fun by giving them access to coding challenges!
In the 2025-2026, first year of this club, we are teaching two courses: Beginner Python and Website Development. Here is an overview of the two courses:
- Semester 1 Course – Beginner Python – 9/23/2025 to 12/16/2025 – We have completed this course, and we taught our students the basics of Python, a high-level back-end language. These basics included: printing, variables, conditionals, lists/dictionaries, loops, and functions. We also had two assessments to see how the students were doing throughout the course, along with a final capstone project where they presented a fully polished Python tool or game that had all the basic Python parts.
- Semester 2 Course – Website Development – 1/6/2026 to 5/5/2026 – In this course, we are going to teach how to build and design fully polished websites using the three core web languages: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. By the end of the course, students will be able to understand the content of websites along with tags, be able to style and customize sites, and add interactivity to their websites. We will be doing multiple assessments to track students’ progress, have interactive code demos, and a final capstone project similar to the Python course.
Overall, we are looking forward to seeing this club grow and seeing kids learning valuable skills while also having fun!

Hello, I’m Rohan Chittum! I’m an 8th grader at Folsom Middle School, and I’m the president of its coding club. I enjoy coding and working on projects that challenge me to think differently, especially anything involving tech, problem-solving, and innovation. I have been coding for 6 years and know Scratch, Python, and partly know CSS, JavaScript, and HTML. Outside of school, I enjoy playing chess, math, and Model UN.

Hi, I’m Abhinav Bijish, and I am an 8th grader at Folsom Middle School. I am a vice president at our school coding club and I love making new things with code. I know three coding languages: HTML, CSS, and Python. I also enjoy robotics, swimming, and I like to play tennis.

Hi, I’m Preran Maddhirala, and I am an 8th grader at Folsom Middle School. I am one of the vice presidents for our school Coding Club and I love reading. I currently know three coding languages, Python, HTML, and CSS, while actively learning other languages like C# and JavaScript. Some of my hobbies include pickleball, freestyle coding, and Model UN.

Hi, I’m Ahsan Ali, and I am an 8th grader at Folsom Middle School with a passion for computer science. I am the vice president of our school coding club, and I enjoy participating in various coding challenges. I’ve been coding for eight years and know five coding languages: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, and Java, along with currently learning Unity. Other than coding, I also enjoy robotics, debate, and Boy Scouts.

Hi, I’m Alvin Sanish, I am in 8th grade. I am a co-founder and vice president in our coding club. I love designing and coding robots using code. I enjoy taking on logical puzzles or problems. I know Python and have started learning Swift. I am also into robotics. In my free time I enjoy playing pickleball, chess, and speech and debate.

Hello, I’m Kyle Chen, and I am in 8th grade and love designing and creating games with code. I am also the vice president of this coding club and love taking on challenges. I know two coding languages: JavaScript and Unity C#, and I am an active game developer with a few published games that are even viewable on the App Store! I am currently learning other languages like Python and HTML. I participate in robotics and debate, and I like to play pickleball.
